The PR (Public Relations) Industry in the Middle East has grown from zero in the early 80s to an estimated $100 million industry today.  Dubai is attracting more and more people from public relation companies overseas who wish to move here make the most of the growing PR industry .  The amount of companies requesting PR proposals have nearly doubled since 2006.

With this said, how does the level of service from the best Public Relations companies in the UAE compare to those across the world and what makes a good or bad PR company?  

An article by Cem Arikoler at Promax says that the business environment in the GCC is getting tougher for any company, with competition growing at unseen speed and global players arriving with huge marketing budgets, let alone the fast growth of a highly educated consumer class. Yet he argues the 'biggest' and 'largest' agencies still cannot explain why marketing managers complain.

It seems more and more companies are creating their own in house PR perhaps for quality control purposes, perhaps for cost cuttings but perhaps also realising the relatively young and underdeveloped nature of the PR market in the Middle East.
 
It seems PR companies in the Middle East and Dubai in particular all offer a similar level of service.  The lack of research in the industry may be a telling sign on how little these companies understand their clients and the markets they are in.  Marketing and PR ethics are not always considered and with CSR growing and impacting businesses all over, this needs to be considered.
